Rebuilding a busy website without switching it off

01 Background

The public website ran on an ageing codebase that was slow to change and hard for the marketing team to update.

The rebuild needed to modernise the stack without disrupting a busy, revenue-critical site.

Objectives

  • Retire the legacy platform
  • Headless CMS for the content team
  • Modern, fast front end
  • No disruption to live traffic

02 Approach

The site was rebuilt on Sitecore JSS as a headless CMS with a Next.js front end, so content and code could change independently.

The migration was planned in stages so the live website kept running throughout.

Outcomes

  • Legacy MVC codebase retired
  • Content editable without developer changes
  • Modern Next.js front end
  • Staged migration with the site live throughout
