Our role
Built by our lead engineer while employed by the insurer

01 Background
Policyholders had to phone the call centre for routine changes to their policies. That meant queues for customers and avoidable workload for staff.
The goal was a secure portal where customers could manage their own policies at any time, built on an API layer that other channels and partners could reuse.
Objectives
- Let policyholders manage policies without phoning
- Secure sign-in and data handling
- A reusable API layer for self-service and partners
- Automated, repeatable deployments
02 Approach
The front end was built in Next.js on a .NET 8 backend that was moved to a microservices and mediator pattern, with the API layer designed for both self-service and partner integrations.
Infrastructure runs on Azure, managed with Terraform, with CI/CD pipelines so releases are routine.
Outcomes
- Used by thousands of policyholders
- Routine changes handled online instead of by phone
- API layer reused for partner integrations
- Infrastructure as code, with automated releases
